But as budgets cap, the salary paid to top executives continues to heat up.

How much are CEOs taking in?

Here is a sample of what some CEOs made in 2010:

*Robert Bell, CEO of University Health Network, takes home $831,432 a year. A 25 per cent increase over 3 years

*Joseph Mapa, CEO of Mt Sinai Hospital, takes home $713,231.42 a year

*Robert Devitt, CEO of Toronto East General Hospital, takes home $444,571.04 a year. Nearly a 53 percent increase over five years

*Robert Howard, the CEO of St. Michael’s Hospital, takes home over $585,984.98 in his second year on the job

We estimate that by freezing the pay of senior officers at 2009 levels, tens of millions of dollars could be saved without negatively affecting patient care.
